Once the transmitter and receiver are operating normally, the voltage induced in the test clamp will be displayed on the handheld receiver; the direction of the pointer's swing indicates the signal direction. When the adjustment knob is stationary and the red arrow on the side of the test clamp aligns with the cable's direction, the cable whose pointer deflects to the right with the largest swing is the one you are looking for. All other cables will only return a signal, and the pointer will deflect to the left with a smaller swing.
